This is my 29th year on the staff of St. Edward School.
During the years I have been at St. Edward,
I have taught students in Kindergarten through third grade.
Currently I am teaching First grade.
It is always nice to have former students return for a visit many years after they have graduated.
I enjoy finding out what they are studying in college or what job they are working at.
I teach the core academic subjects in first grade.
These include reading, math, writing, religion, science and social studies.
Our focus in reading includes sight word recognition, decoding skills, phonics, spelling and comprehension.
Our writing goals are correct use of capitalization, punctuation, adding details to a story and different genres.
In math we use the Mathland program which provides a variety of learning experiences.
Investigations offer hands-on problem solving challenges which help the students reinforce their mental and oral communication.
We focus on memorizing our basic addition and subtraction facts through 10.
