A Brief History
In 1911, St. Edward pastor Fr. Quigely asked Bishop O'Dea to send teaching sisters to staff a proposed parish school. The sisters of the Third Order of St. Dominic, later known as the Tacoma Dominicans, responded with four sisters, and St. Edward School opened to 144 students on September 10, 1911.
Since that time, St. Edward School has been a beacon to existing, newly relocated, and immigrant families in the Rainier Valley. Some families are often newly arrived to the United States. St. Edward School has a rich history of assisting families in adjusting to life in the United States and at the same time ensuring that students excel academically, and grow physically, morally, and spiritually.
In a spirit of gratitude, we'd like to thank all the families and other supporters whose generosity over the past one hundred years has helped make it possible for the school to serve its mission. Thanks to the continuing support of people who are passionate about the value of a Catholic education, people like you, St. Edward School will graduate great students and great citizens for the next one hundred years.
